Beyond Homecare :
Creating an intergenerational care network

Since the beginning of Santropol Roulant's existence, we have put as much thought and energy into how we deliver the meals as we do into their preparation. The act of providing a meal to the home of a senior living with a loss of autonomy, can in some cases be a factor that further isolates that individual if they do not have access to a social network to keep their mind active and involved.

That is why we use our meal service as an invitation to become part of an intergenerational care community. This intergenerational network is able to care for all its members as complete people and not target one age group/recipient or one aspect of their care, i.e. hunger. Our goal in feeding our intergenerational activities is to allow for the space needed to create the relationships and bonds that will lend themselves to caring for each other beyond the meal service.

"For us seniors we have the opportunity to talk about our lives and be reminded of our value as contributing members of our community. There is something very fulfilling for someone of my age to be equal with someone young instead of being 'old grandma'. "
-Susie Raphals, 84 years old
